End of Year Party!

The guild met Wednesday, December 16th for their end of year holiday party.  Marcia and MaryHelen created a delicious meal of chicken enchiladas and decadent raspberry cheesecake. Marcia will be the new 2016 President with Kathleen Lyman and new member DeAnn Ivins as her helpers. Thanks guys for volunteering to lead us next year!!!

We started out the evening (after we stuffed ourselves) with show and tell.

Norma has been busy!!

Sallie shows her pinwheel

Jeri has such talent!!  She is going to show us how to make this too!!

Marcia with the cheerleader quilt she made her granddaughter

Carol Dawn Black crocheted this masterpiece for Sallie for Christmas

Sherrie is making cute little purses.  Adorable!

Gift Exchange

Members brought 3 of their favorite "sewing" things for the gift exchange.  Everyone told why it is their favorite thing then names were drawn to receive the gift.  In the end, everyone went home with 3 new favorite things!  It was a very fun evening and we are all looking forward to 2016!!

The January meeting will NOT be held at the library - location has not been determined, but we will keep you posted.

We invite anyone to join us for 2016 - it is such a fun time.

HELP the Young Single Adults with their Christmas Quilt Project

Ladies,

I received a call from David Johnson this morning asking for some help with the Young Single Adults doing some quilts for Christmas.  I was also given Angela Hurst as a contact for this.  After speaking with her, this is what is needed:

1. Lap/single quilt tops and bottoms to tie:  She has a box full of 18 x 29 assorted fat quarters - you are welcome to come and get what you would need to put together a quilt top.  If you don't have a piece of material for the bottom - she could possible arrange getting that.  She would like the top and bottom sewn together in an envelope with batting (She will have the batting) so they can be turned and ready to quilt.

2. December 14th - a Monday at the North Chapel at 6:00 pm - enough quilt stands for the quilts that are ready to be tied, and quilt guilders who are willing to help show them how to put the quilts on and tie them.

These are going to be given for Christmas from the  Young Single adults to some individuals/families who are in need.

This is Angela's email address hurstgirls@frontiernet.net
Her number is 435-678-2638

Please email me if you are able to put together a quilt top, if you have quilt frames, if you could help on the 14th of December.
THanks - you are the best!  Debbie C

Sew Thankful Weekend

Twelve guild members enjoyed a weekend of sewing UFO's, charity projects and Christmas gifts.  The community was invited to see demonstrations of making place mats using the "shuffle method" with four fat quarters of material.  Kathy brought bolts of material donated by Riley Blake to be used for items to give to Primary Children's Hospital next year at the Festival of Trees.  The guild was so exited by this project that they planned a "Charity Sew Weekend" in February.

Community members stop by to see the demonstration
on making place mats.

The possibilities are endless!!
Even Deb's grandson, Cooper,
joined in the sewing. He learned
to sew at the 4H Quilt Camp.
Janet contemplates her project

Kathy sewing non stop as usual!!
Deb shows Laura more techniques on
place-mat creations!!
Members take a break for a wonderful lunch provided
by CalDean Black, courtesy of the USU Extension Service.
Marsha, (a community member and possible new
guild member!) helps Kathleen with tying a quilt.

Demonstration by Deb Bayles:  Placemats

Thursday, October 22, 2015

The State Quilt Guild challenges each guild to make charity quilts, our wonderful guild members really outdid themselves.  Here are 27 quilts that were donated to the Gentle Ironhawk Women's Shelter here in Blanding UT.

Our guild was asked if we could help make some receiving/small blankets to be taken to Africa, over 50 were made and one their way.

Each year our guild makes "Service Quilts"

October 2015 Guild Meeting

The theme for our meeting was to bring a favorite pattern or Christmas give-away idea.

Deb Bayles, Debbie Christiansen, Cathy Cosby showed off theirs in the form of tissue box covers, hexagon coasters, table place mats, hot pad/recipe/spatula holder.

Bonnie Richardson our State Guild Rep, shows off her pumpkin place mats.

Bonnie Meyer is a mom, grandma, great-grandma and she makes something for all of them for Christmas, here are a few of the 100 pillowcases she is making.

Bonnie was laid up this spring/summer with a bad leg so she had alot of time on her hands, she filled it up very nicely.

Kathleen Lyman and Bonnie are sisters, they are always up to something good.  Here Kathleen has made 100 bags and taught her sister to love them too.

Kathy Hurst has put out other master pieces.

Nancy Kimmerle finished up her Retreat Quilt

Carol Fredere has taken to striping and is quite good at it.

Eve Lyn Perkins helped out her friend Holly Walker who pieced together the middle of this quilt and Eve Lyn did the boarders, Gayle Shumway did the longarm quilting

Cathy Cosby shows off the Happy Birthday wall hanging, and a UFO project.

Janet Wilcox, Carol Fredere, Karen Kartchner furnished the wonderful refreshment of taco soup and tortilla chips, and a yummy quilters desert.

Happy Birthday this month to Bonnie Meyer and Shari Guymon
