October’s Project – Supply List

October’s guild meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 19th at 6:00pm.  Sidney Christensen will be demonstrating how to make fabric baskets.  Bring your sewing machines and supplies.  Once you’ve mastered the technique, it takes about 30 minutes to make a basket.  These baskets will make GREAT Christmas gifts!
EXAMPLES….
Sept008
SUPPLY LIST…
  • 1/3 yard of fabric (USE YOUR SCRAPS!)  They turn out darling!!!
  • 50 feet of cotton clothesline  (This will make two small baskets or one medium sized basket)
  • White thread – lots of it!
  • Medium size Binder Clip or something similar to clip to rope/fabric (see photo below)
  • Sewing Machine (I use a size 16 needle, but this isn’t required)
  • scissors
Again, use your scraps!  Cut your scraps into 1” to 2” strips and sew together so they are about 40” long.  (Longer than that makes it difficult to wrap around the  clothesline.)  I do not make them even, meaning I will sew a 1” scrap to a 1.5” scrap.  I don’t cut it to make it even.  It doesn’t matter unless you are a perfectionist!!!)
If using fabric, precut your fabric into 1” to 2” strips.  Make the strips the Width of Fabric.
There are several tutorials out on the internet.  Here’s one I found it you want to reference it.  Fabric Basket Tutorial.
