Charity Sew Weekends - March, April and May

Our guild has been very busy working on projects for the Festival of Trees for Primary Children's Hospital.  For the past 3 months we have met for "weekend sews" to add to our stash of donated items.  We have accomplished so much!  Quilts, receiving blankets, placemats, aprons, pot holders, and more quilts - just to name a few!  There is something about meeting with all your quilting buddies for a weekend and sewing (and of course eating).  And the sense of accomplishment is tremendous!  We also have show and tell with the finished projects or personal projects.  Below is a few.

Bonnie does amazing things with tricot!

Cathy and her cute boot wall hanging

Deb made this Irish Chain for the Festival of Trees

and this cute "truck" quilt - some little girls will love these!

Look at this amazing photo creation Debbie C did!!!

Janet did both of these wonderful quilts

Kathy made this for her granddaughter - CUTE!

Marcia's chevron quilt for the Festival of Trees - she is the Chevron Queen!

Our next big project will be the July 4th quilt.  IT IS GOING TO BE AMAZING!!!  And don't forget to come to the quilt show at the Wellness Center on July 4th to see all the beautiful quilts!!

February Charity Sew Weekend a HUGE success!!

Our guild has decided to put a lot of effort into contributing to the Festival of Trees to benefit Primary Children's Hospital as our charity for the year.  We held a "sew weekend"  on the 19th and 20th.  Many ladies attended and we accomplished a lot!  Material donated by Riley Blake was available for us to "create" with.  Blankets, quilts, pot holders, aprons, table runners, and place-mats were some of the items completed.  Extra material was also taken home to do projects with.  Snacks aplenty kept us nourished (well full anyway) and we sewed from morning till night both days.  Everyone was so excited to be working on this event.  It was such a success we decided to do
another weekend in March!!!

January 2016

Our January meeting was held at the Arts and Events Center as the library (our usual meeting spot) wasn't available.  Our new President is Marcia Johnson and her helpers are Kathleen Lyman and new member DeAnn Ivins.

Baby Blankets to Africa!!

Jerry & Tina Murdock told about their October trip to Africa.  The GCQ sent over 40 baby blankets with them to give to new mothers at a remote hospital.  However, they had to find more gifts as there were over 60 newborns that day!!  Thankfully they were able to give each new mother a gift.  We were so glad to be a part of this wonderful experience!!!
As there are no facilities for Premature babies, the tiny newborns are kept wrapped at the mothers chest to keep them warm.

An excited new mother gets a beautiful new blanket for her baby!!!

The guild met Wednesday, December 16th for their end of year holiday party.  Marcia and MaryHelen created a delicious meal of chicken enchiladas and decadent raspberry cheesecake. Marcia will be the new 2016 President with Kathleen Lyman and new member DeAnn Ivins as her helpers. Thanks guys for volunteering to lead us next year!!!

We started out the evening (after we stuffed ourselves) with show and tell.

Gift Exchange

Members brought 3 of their favorite "sewing" things for the gift exchange.  Everyone told why it is their favorite thing then names were drawn to receive the gift.  In the end, everyone went home with 3 new favorite things!  It was a very fun evening and we are all looking forward to 2016!!

The January meeting will NOT be held at the library - location has not been determined, but we will keep you posted.

We invite anyone to join us for 2016 - it is such a fun time.
